Anomaly of Discrete Symmetries and Gauge Coupling Unification

چکیده

Anomaly of a discrete symmetry is defined as the Jacobian of the path-integral measure. Assuming that anomaly at low energy is cancelled by the Green-Schwarz (GS) mechanism at a fundamental scale, we investigate possible Kac-Moody levels for anomalous discrete family symmetries. As the first example we consider discrete abelian Baryon number and Lepton number symmetries in the minimal supersymmetric standard model with see-saw mechanism, and find that the ordinary unification of gauge couplings is not consistent with the GS conditions, indicating a possible existence of further Higgs doublets. We consider various recently proposed supersymmetric models with a non-abelian discrete family symmetry. In a supersymmetric example with Q6 family symmetry, the GS conditions are such that the gauge coupling unification appears close to the Planck scale.

Anomaly of discrete family symmetries and gauge coupling unification 1 Takeshi Araki

Anomaly of discrete symmetries can be defined as the Jacobian of the path-integral measure. We assume that an anomalous discrete symmetry at low energy is remnant of an anomaly free discrete symmetry, and that its anomaly is cancelled by the Green-Schwarz (GS) mechanism at a more fundamental scale. If the Kac-Moody levels ki assume nontrivial values, the GS cancellation conditions of anomaly mo...

Flavor “Conservation” and Hierarchy in TeV-scale Supersymmetric Standard Model

Recently a TeV-scale Supersymmetric Standard Model (TSSM) was proposed in which the gauge coupling unification is as precise (at one loop) as in the MSSM, and occurs in the TeV range. Proton stability in the TSSM is due to an anomaly free Z3 ⊗ Z3 discrete gauge symmetry, which is also essential for successfully generating neutrino masses in the desirable range. In this paper we show that the TS...

Natural R–Parity, μ–term, and Fermion Mass Hierarchy From Discrete Gauge Symmetries

In the minimal supersymmetric Standard Model with seesaw neutrino masses we show how R–parity can emerge naturally as a discrete gauge symmetry. The same discrete symmetry explains the smallness of the μ–term (the Higgsino mass parameter) via the Giudice–Masiero mechanism. The discrete gauge anomalies are cancelled by a discrete version of the Green–Schwarz mechanism. The simplest symmetry grou...

A note on the RG flow in (N = 1, D = 4) Supergravity and applications to Z3 orbifold/orientifold compactification

We apply the standard approach of RG flow for the gauge couplings in N=1 D=4 Supergravity to show how to match its results with the heterotic Z3 orbifold and Type IIB Z3 orientifold-based models. Using only supergravity, anomaly cancellation and the requirement of unification we determine the part of the Kähler potential of the model invariant under the symmetries of the model. For heterotic or...
